Tirer parti de la géométrie particulière des lieux
L’architecte d’intérieur a su tirer parti de l’étroitesse de l’entrée en créant un effet de profondeur, notamment grâce à une salle de bain noire et à un ensemble de miroirs. Ces derniers dissimulent des éléments de maçonnerie disgracieux ainsi que des installations techniques.
Le salon-séjour, quant à lui, bénéficie d’une belle largeur et offre un panorama composé d’une succession d’agencements variés : formes, dimensions et couleurs s’y répondent dans un dialogue continu. Chaque ligne guide le regard vers une autre, offrant une lecture de l’espace à 360 degrés.
La grande chambre se déploie comme un second plan du salon, de la même manière que la petite chambre prolonge visuellement la cuisine. Ces espaces secondaires sont pensés au service de la perspective et de la profondeur.
Des agencements sur mesure
Des aménagements sur mesure exploitent intelligemment chaque recoin de l’appartement, tout en respectant la géométrie globale des lieux.
Dans le salon, la diversité des agencements compose un ensemble à la fois harmonieux et contrasté. On y trouve un vaisselier suspendu, un meuble bas Alpiwood (dessiné par E. Sottsass), des teintes sobres (blanc, gris, noir), ainsi que du chêne huilé couleur chocolat pour les allèges des fenêtres.
Une modernité qui révèle l’histoire du lieu
Bien que l’appartement affiche une esthétique résolument contemporaine, les tomettes d’origine et les poutres apparentes ont été conservées dans le salon-séjour, en hommage à l’histoire du quartier, l’un des plus anciens de Paris.
Dans la cuisine, le rouge sang légèrement orangé, appliqué en monochrome absolu, surprend et séduit. Il est mis en valeur par l’inox, qui reflète les nuances chaudes de ce rouge intense. Ce choix audacieux fait écho à la localisation de l’appartement, au cœur du quartier des Enfants Rouges.
L’ambiance contemporaine s’impose grâce à un revêtement de sol uni et continu, présent dans toutes les pièces. Il se prolonge visuellement sur les murs et plafonds, contribuant à lisser les irrégularités de l’existant.
Un mobilier au service du récit architectural
Le choix du mobilier et des objets de décoration vient renforcer les intentions architecturales. À l’entrée de la cuisine, un souffle de romantisme italien dialogue avec l’audace de l’anti-design de Sottsass. Dans le séjour, des pièces brutalistes reposent sur les tomettes d’époque, tandis que le salon accueille un mobilier post-moderniste vintage des années 1950, dans une atmosphère plus sobre.
L’ensemble forme un intérieur équilibré, à la fois surprenant et délicat, où chaque aménagement s’inscrit dans une légèreté maîtrisée.

Making the most of the apartment’s unique geometry
The interior architect successfully embraced the narrowness of the entrance by creating a strong sense of depth, notably through a black bathroom and a composition of mirrors. These mirrors discreetly conceal unsightly masonry elements as well as technical installations.
The living and dining area benefits from a generous width and offers a panoramic experience composed of a succession of varied built-in elements: shapes, dimensions, and colors interact in a continuous dialogue. Each line guides the eye toward another, offering a 360-degree reading of the space.
The main bedroom unfolds as a second plane of the living room, just as the smaller bedroom visually extends the kitchen. These secondary spaces are designed to serve perspective and spatial depth.
Bespoke interior fittings
Custom-made joinery makes intelligent use of every corner of the apartment while respecting the overall geometry of the space.
In the living room, the diversity of built-in elements creates a composition that is both harmonious and contrasting. The space features a suspended display cabinet, a low cabinet in Alpiwood (designed by E. Sottsass), a restrained color palette (white, gray, black), and chocolate-toned oiled oak used for the window reveals.
Contemporary design revealing the history of the space
Although the apartment embraces a resolutely contemporary aesthetic, the original terracotta floor tiles and exposed beams have been preserved in the living area, paying tribute to the history of the neighborhood, one of the oldest in Paris.
In the kitchen, a deep blood red with subtle orange undertones, applied in a fully monochromatic treatment, surprises and captivates. It is enhanced by stainless steel surfaces, which reflect the warm nuances of this intense hue. This bold choice echoes the apartment’s location, in the heart of the Enfants Rouges district.
The contemporary atmosphere is reinforced by a continuous, uniform floor finish used throughout the apartment. It visually extends onto the walls and ceilings, helping to smooth the irregularities of the existing structure.
Furniture serving the architectural narrative
The selection of furniture and decorative objects reinforces the architectural intentions. At the entrance to the kitchen, a touch of Italian romanticism engages in dialogue with the bold anti-design spirit of Sottsass. In the living area, brutalist pieces sit atop the original terracotta tiles, while the lounge features vintage postmodern furniture from the 1950s, creating a more restrained atmosphere.
The result is a balanced interior—both surprising and delicate—where every element contributes to a sense of controlled lightness.
